Make a Shadowbox
Okey dokey folks, Rebecca come up with yet another fun and fairly easy project this go-round. If you have a bunch of stuff laying around that you would really like to have framed and hanging on your wall, then this is the project for you. Being that I spent several years working as a professional framer, hopefully I will be able to shed a little light on how to best accomplish some of the trickier parts of construction. No, we are not going to tell you how to frame anything and everything. There isn’t enough space in this single article for that. This one is specifically for producing a shadowbox, or a deep-framed piece to display 3-D objects. Let us know if you want to know more, though, let us know in the comments section and we will come up with a new, spiffy framing project to do.

Standing Out While Blending In: The Corporate Goth
So it’s happened. You finally landed that job that will pay for everything you need, and most of what you want. The only problem is, it’s a corporate job, complete with corporate dress code. What’s a Goth girl (or guy) to do?
Luckily, most corporate clothing is already black, which makes searching for clothes in your closet easier. The problem is, most of the skirts we like to wear are too short or have too many details, like D-rings, corseting, and patterning (think plaid schoolgirl skirts). If you have any pencil skirts with smaller, less noticeable corseting, you could probably get away with them at the office. Full Story »

The Third Generation
Movies
Asherra, having just started a new job, has been a little swamped lately so I’ll be your guide again through another column on the third generation. Let’s consider movies for just a moment. Visual media is such a heavy influence on culture today that it seems only reasonable that it would influence the goth culture. Though on network television it has become painfully obvious that the Goth culture is having a bigger impact on the popular world that vice versa, but this is not so with regard to movies.

Music Reviews
Emilie Autumn
Laced/Unlaced
2007
Being that this is Laced and Unlaced (i.e. Her corset) then it would only make sense that the Laced CD is much more of her classical roots. It is in spades. If you are looking for some well-produced and well-played classical music, this is the CD for you. I can’t think of many people that can argue with Bach, Corelli and the like. If, however you were much more enamored with her previous effort, Opheliac, then Unlaced is for you. Emilie describes her music as Violindustrial. I think that some of the songs a little more Violinwave, but all the same, very enjoyable. Definitely a unique take on a wonderful instrument from a talented artist.

What is Goth?
I have been doing some soul searching, or rather, soul identifying of late. Like an immigrant witnessing his borough melting under the heat of assimilation I see my community, the only community I am proud to count myself amongst, suffused with normality. Confronting me is the question, “What is Goth to me?”

Fish
Fog swirling,
reliving my lost dreams.
In the lake a fish is seen,
it swims, lost, through the endless dark.

Noir Project
From the dark streets of San Diego at night comes Noir Project. A project started by William Wall in 2006, the sound and vision of the band has gone through some growing pains and a few revisions. Now William has set his sights more clearly on the target and is working to match reality with his vision. Dressed in a suit and tie, William is encouraging a classy look in what can be a dirty landscape known as modern goth-influenced electronic music. Nothing To Fear
Its not felt, only seen,
by those who long for its touch,
and what was delt was obscene,
i never cared that much,
it was nothing but the end,
of a world that turned to wrong
and now paying for our sins,
we belong here.
