Goth Help Us falls away

After a little more than a year and a half, Goth Help Us (GHU) International has folded. Little was said by founder and CEO Rebecca Hohm, other than she is planning on starting from scratch and will do what she wants to do, which is help people. New organizations have been popping up, formed by old GHU members, aiming to do public good works. Such organizations are those like San Diego’s Gothic Volunteer Alliance (GVA) and Denver’s Mile High Gothic Alliance. Hopefully these groups will not experience the same disappointment that Rebecca did with GHU.

This saddens me a little. The entire concept of Goth Help Us really struck a chord with me. However, I hadn’t joined up myself yet. I suppose I won’t be able to now that it has faded to black.

It would be worthwhile and interesting to see if something springs up anew in its place. The niche it represented is something that really needs to be filled.

I am the only remaining Goth Help Us chapter, and I remain as a beacon for supporters and former GHU chapter leaders. My bud Mike and I are Denver scene elders and have founded Mile High Gothic Alliance (MHGA, referenced in this article) which has become so successful that we often can’t find words to describe the feeling. The former San Diego GHU president is a personal friend of mine, who founded the Gothic Volunteer Alliance of San Diego (GVA-SD). We and GVA-SD are working with yet three more former GHU chapter presidents who are also building volunteer alliance groups and projects. We have seen other groups spring up as well. The Goth Help Us concept is alive and well, and I encourage you to visit our webpage at www.myspace.com/MileHighGothic for a look at what we’re doing, to ask questions, to see links to the other volunteer alliances I’ve mentioned, and to consider starting your own group. Even if you’re not in our area, we are here to help with any questions you may have.
